“We Like We Carnival” is the theme selected for Grenada's 2008 Carnival celebration. A theme song based on the 1980s Road March hit, We Want We Carnival, will also be recorded for the event. The 2008 Carnival celebration will be held from August 11 - 12.
According to postings appearing on the Spiceislander Talkshop and Grenada Broadcast, a theme and song were selected for Grenada's 2008 Carnival celebration. The theme chosen for the 2008 event is “We Like We Carnival.” A theme song of the same title will also be recorded. The song will be a remake of the 1980s Road March hit "We Want We Carnival" originally done by the late Randolph Thomas (Timpo).
The selection of a classic Soca anthem to mark the seasonal event comes after the huge success of the previous theme song, "August is the Time". "August is the Time," was originally done by Calypsonian "Sebert" in 1985, however the 2006 remake included the infusion of Grenada's popular Jab Jab rhythm. This along with excellent vocals by a young and upcoming, Mario Castle made the song one of the most popular hits that season.
While a song and theme have been selected, planning for Spice Mas 2008 seems to be moving at a slow pace. It is approximately five months before the event and the official website and main communication arm, spicemasgrenada.com, still has not been updated to reflect plans for the new season. The 2008 Carnival celebration will be held from August 11 - 12.
